Eurybia

Εὐρυβίη

Eurybia is a daughter of Pontus and Gaia, married to the Titan Crius, and the mother of Astraeus, Pallas and Perses.

Eurybia is not a Titaness by birth. In Hesiod she is one of the five children of Pontus, the sea, and Gaia, described as having a heart of flint. She marries Crius, one of the Titans, and so joins the Titan family.

The three sons she bears him, Astraeus, Pallas and Perses, matter more than she does. Astraeus becomes the father of the winds and the stars by Eos, and Perses is the father of Hecate. Pallas is the father of Nike, Kratos, Zelus and Bia by the river Styx.

Apart from the genealogy, Eurybia has no stories. She is a good example of how the Theogony uses a marriage to attach sea-born powers to the Titan line.

The ancient evidence for Eurybia is limited, so this page is short on purpose.
