Greek Titans
The original 12 Greek Titans were the children of Uranus (also known as the Sky, the Heavens, Ouranos) and Gaea (also known as the Earth, Gaia, Mother Earth, or Ge). Uranus and Gaea also gave birth to the 3 Cyclopes, and the 3 Hecatonchires.
The names of the Titans were Cronus, Rhea, Themis, Oceanus, Crius, Coeus, Phoebe, Mnemosyne, Tethys, Lapetus, Theia, and Hyperion. There were six males and six females and bSome of them married each other. Cronus married Rhea, Coeus married Phoebe, Crius married Mnemosyne, Hyperion married Theia, and Oceanus married Tethys. Lapetus married a nymph named Clymene (who was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys), and Themis didn’t marry but was loved by her nephew, Zeus.
The Cyclopes were three giants named Brontes, Steropes, and Arges. They had one eye in the middle of their foreheads. They were very good metal workers and made the thunderbolts for Zeus. The names of the three Hecatonchires were, Cottus, Briareus, and Gyges. They were also giants and they had 50 heads and 100 arms. They along with the Cyclopes helped Zeus in the war against the Titans.
When Gaea got tired of Uranus coming down every night to lay with her she wanted to get rid of Uranus. Uranus was also ashamed of his children saying that they were monsters and were ugly so Gaea also wanted to protect her children. She tried to convince her children to help her destroy Uranus but only Cronus volunteered to help and it is believed he did it because he was jealous of his father and he wanted to be the ruler of all gods and humans. Gaea made a sickle for Cronus and when Uranus came down to lay with Gaea, Cronus castrated him and threw his testicles into the sea. When the blood from Uranus hit the earth, there were more monsters and nymphs born. When the testicles hit the water of the sea, a large foam appeared on the surface of the sea and from it Aphrodite was born.
As time passed Cronus and Rhea had their children and since Cronus had heard that one of his children would overthrow him and take his place as ruler of the gods and humans, he feared them all. To keep this from happening, Cronus swallowed every one of his children as soon as they were born. That is, all except for their son, Zeus. When the time came for Zeus to be born, Rhea went to Crete and gave birth to Zeus there then hid him in a cave. She then went back to Zeus with a rock wrapped in baby clothes and Cronus swallowed it. Then Rhea brought Zeus an herb to drink and when he drank it, he regurgitated and up came the rock and the children he had swallowed. When the children were grown, they along with Zeus overthrew Cronus and the other Titans. This is what was known as the Trojan War.
