The Greek gods and goddesses were the opinions of the Greeks as to how the world began. They worshiped these gods and goddesses. This was their form of religion.
In the beginning the only thing that existed was Chaos. Chaos was a black abyss with no form of life at all. It was just a dark, quiet, and lifeless. Chaos then created Earth (also known as Mother Earth, Gaea, Ge, or Gaia), and Eros (Desire).
Ok, we started out with Chaos. Chaos created Gaea and Eros. Gaea created Uranus, Pontus, and the Mountains by herself. Gaea then married Uranus and together they created the children known as the original 12 Titans, 3 Cyclopes known as Brontes, Steropes, and Arges. They also gave birth to 3 Hecatonchires (creatures with one hundred heads), and nymphs. Of the 12 Titans, there were six males and six females. The Titan gods and goddesses lived on Mount Olympus and ruled the other gods and goddesses. Each son of Uranus and Gaea married one of the daughters, except for Themis, who was loved by her nephew Zeus, and Lapetus married the nymph Clymene (the daughter of Oceanus and Tetys). The other sons, Ceous married Phoebe, Crius married Mnemosyne, Hyperion married Theia, Oceanus married Tethys, and Cronus married Rhea. Each of these Titans went on to give birth to their own children.
The children of Cronus and Rhea were, Zeus, Hera, Hestia, Demeter, Poseidon, and Hades. Oceanus and Thetys gave birth to the river nymphs and the Oceanids. Mnemosyne and Zeus gave birth to the 9 Muses. They were Clio, Urania, Melpomene, Thalia, Terpsichore, Calliope, Erato, Euterpe, and Polyhymnia. Lapetus and Clymene had Atlas, Menoetius, and Prometheus. Hyperion and Theia gave birth to Helios, Eos, and Selene. Coeus and Phoebe gave birth to Leto and Asteria. These gods and goddesses were the first generation of the Olympian gods. Each had their own task to rule certain areas of the world. They were also in charge of creating other living things such as plants, trees, flowers, humans, birds, and other animals. The gods and goddesses were also responsible in creating the personalities and protective equipment each one needed in order to protect themselves form other animals.
There are many more gods and goddesses but these were the main ones and they have some very interesting things written about them
