Greak Greek Gods

One of the great Greek gods was known as Zeus. Zeus was one of the first Olympians and became the ruler of all the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus and the world. The parents of Zeus was Rhea and Cronus. The siblings of Zeus were Hera, Hades, Demeter, Poseidon, and Hestia. As the story goes, Cronus feared that he was going to be overthrown by one of his children so he swallowed every newborn as soon as they were born. When Rhea was about to give birth to Zeus, she and Gaea plotted to protect him. Rhea went to the island of Crete and gave birth to Zeus and hid him in a cave on Mount Ida. She then went back to Cronus and gave him a rock dressed in baby clothes and he immediately swallowed it thinking ti was Zeus. A while later, Rhea gave Cronus an herb to drink and told him it would make him invincible, so he drank it. The herb made him regurgitate and when he did, up came the rock and the children in reverse order they were swallowed, starting with the rock.

When Zeus and his siblings were grown, Zeus led them into battle to destroy their father (Cronus) to get revenge for what he had done to them. These children were the first of the Olympians and they waged war against Cronus and some of the Titans. This was known as the famous War of the Titans. Most people have heard of the famous Trojan Horse. Zeus and his army, which included the Cyclopes (giants with one eye in the middle of their forehead) and the Hecatonchires (3 giant creatures with 50 heads and 100 arms), his brothers and sisters, and a few of the Titans. There were also other Olympians who helped Zeus. After they conquered the Titans and locked them away in Tartarus (a deep pit deep within the Underworld), Zeus then became the ruler of all gods and humans.

Zeus married his sister Hera and together they gave birth to Ares, Hebe, and Hephaestus, and according to some stories, Hera also gave birth to Eileithyia. It was also reported that Zeus had a very wondering eye and also consorted with Leto, Demeter, Dione, Maia and also the mortals Semele, Io, Europa, and Leda. As the story continues, Hera was very jealous of Zeus and his other women, and the children he had with them. Hera tried to destroy the children after they were born.

Zeus dominated over the Greek Olympian home of Mount Olympus. He fathered many heroes and was in many of their cults. Many people would worship Zeus because he had a wide range of authority.
