Apollo the Sun God Greek Myths God

Apollo, the Sun god and other Greek myths gods and goddesses is a subject that is very interesting to read about. There is a lot of information about the Greek gods and goddesses on the internet and in the Greek mythology books in the library. The translations of some of the stories about the gods may vary because they were translated by more than one person and each one had their own ideas of what the translations meant. The names of some of the gods and goddesses were also so similar, there were different opinions of who did what and where. One can only read them for themselves and decide which ones they believe or don’t believe, if any. These Myths are very interesting and there have been many stories written on these gods and goddesses. There has also been a renewed interest in the worshiping of these Greek gods and goddesses recently.

Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto. His sister was Artemis. They had many step brothers and sisters because their father, Zeus had a wondering eye. One translation says that Artemis was born first and helped her mother deliver Apollo. Artemis was the virgin goddess of the hunt and she helped women in childbirth and she could also bring sudden death with her arrows. Apollo was the god of prophesy, music, and healing. Some say he invented the lute. Apollo intervened in human affairs on a regular basis. This was not unlike the other gods and goddesses. He was the one who brought the demise of Achilles. Achilles was the best fighter in the in the Trojan War, in the conquering of the city of Troy from the Titans. Apollo was an Olympian and he along with Zeus and his other brothers and sisters, decided to overthrow Cronus and the other Titans.

It seems that after Rhea gave birth to each of her children, Cronus (their father) would swallow them whole because he had heard that one of his sons would overthrow him and take control of his throne to become the ruler of all gods. Cronus did not get a chance to swallow Zeus because when Rhea was about to give birth, she went to Crete and delivered the baby and hid him in a cave. Then Rhea went back to Cronus and gave him a rock covered in baby clothes and Cronus swallowed it. Rhea then gave him an herb, telling him it would make him invincible, and he drank it and it made him regurgitate and when he did, up came the rock and all of the children. When the children were grown they plotted to overthrow Cronus with Zeus as their leader.
